SummerStage’s 2008 schedule takes shape


Folks in New York City always seem to have it made in the summer. Besides the always incredible number of great shows taking place each and every night and the multiple music festivals, the city also plays host to a ton of free summer shows.

Central Park’s SummerStage is among the premier NYC venues once again offering numerous free shows this year. Among the scheduled highlights this summer…

06/14: Vampire Weekend, Kid Sister, Born Ruffians, hosted by Andrew W.K.

06/20: Stephen Lynch, Mike Birbiglia, hosted by Julian McCullough

07/20: Santogold, Diplo, A-Trak, Kid Cudi

07/23: Mark Knopfler

08/03: Janelle Monáe, Little Jackie, Jose James, Gilles Peterson

08/09: Kinky, Alejandro Escovedo with Strings, Pistolera

08/14: Los Lonely Boys, Los Lobos

08/16: Battles, Black Dice, Gang Gang Dance

08/17: Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Menahan Street Band, Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens

Thievery Corporation, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, and The National will also be playing the SummerStage, however, these particular shows will not be free.

Duran Duran played earlier this week.
